Familyman Friendly Campgrounds

Now that things seem to be warming up, I’ve been thinking about RVing. I know there are several of you Familymen who own campgrounds. I’d love to hear where you’re located, and I know there are many others who would love to take advantage of your campspots.
Don’t own a campground but have a family favorite? I’d like to hear about it.

Our current family favorite campground is the Jellystone Campground near Hagerstown MD. For those who want to camp near civil war battlefields, or within a couple of hours of Washington DC, this one is great. They also have a LOT of activities and amenities, and a one-price policy that includes almost everything (incl. pedal carts, waterslides, etc., but not videogames or some of the crafts). They are not cheap, but they are high value.
They have RV spaces, tent spaces, and cabins.
The self-paced tours of Antietam National Battlefield, and Haper’s Ferry (both within about 1/2 hour of the campground) are excellent! For the shopping-inclined, there is also a large outlet center very close, and a Walmart within about 20 minutes.

Bass River Campground in southern NJ has been my favorite campground since I was 5. I remember going with my family growing up and swimming and fishing in Lake Absegami.
Now I am 40 and take my family(wife and 5 kids) to Bass River to swim and fish in the same lake. A life moment for me took place a few years back when my dad came to visit from Florida and he joined MY family for a trip to Bass River. Nice facilities and cheap. Tent sites, lean to’s, cabins and RV spaces. Close to Historic Smithville and Batsto Village. Supermarket about 2 miles away in case you gorget something.

I work for Williamsburg Christian Retreat Center! It’s only 18 minutes away from Colonial Williamsburg (not to mention 17 minutes from Busch Gardens. We have a fantastic 22 site RV campground with full hook-ups in a very scenic area that is wooded. It’s a bit under the radar, so it’s rarely crowded. OK bro- We DO have (what I consider) the best one anywhere and should you come this way (the far Southwest- middle of NM) you are more than welcome to the Bonita Nazarene Campground in Ruidoso (the states favorite outdoor town and such.) Lots of historic stuff and friends of yours (like me) to show you and yours the best spots-(where to go and not to go!) If you desire to go to a more cooler and closer place- no problem- I have some in mind should you need my serves brother.

There is a great family friendly campsite at Pine River Paddle Sports located in Wellston, MI (west side of the state 3/4’s of the way up). Camp sites and cabin sites are very separated from each other with lots of greenry plus some small cabins. Very clean restrooms. Enforced quiet hours at night. Short hike through woods trail to Pine River where you can fish, sit on a sandy waters edge etc. pretty much all to yourself. Water is cold all year but because of that its also good trout fishing either walking from camp or other places along the river. Camp also has great canoe/kayak/raft trip options right on site. Google the name and you will see more on their website. The only issue is I don’t know how big a camper they can take.

We purchased our first camper last summer and have learned a “whole heap” over the last camping season. Needless to say I am in a HUGE spring fever rut. We enjoy Maumee Bay State Park in Oregon Ohio right off of route 2. Reasonably priced, lots of activities for the family. They have a movie night every friday night free of charge and popcorn and pop only cost like .50 cents. Lots of scenery, wildlife, fishing. Check it out! We love it!

i know you have spoken here before and not sure if you stayed in our campground or in one of our rooms
but the campground is nice-Spruce Lake Retreat in canadensis PA-lots of trails and outdoorsy stuffTodd - the Familyman

Sycamore Canyon, just north of Malibu California. Great place to camp with the family. Plenty of hiking or walk under the bridge and you’re at the beach.

we have an awesome state park in north al. in fort payne desoto state park. remodeled last year, they have great educational programs done by near by collage professors. a great weekend great away and a nice place for a field trip

Huntington Beach State Park is a local favorite if you are in the Myrtle Beach, SC area. Our church has annual camping events in the park, and the beach is very family friendly.

Hi Todd!
I was wondering if you have problems finding campgrounds that will allow your family to stay because of how many kids you have? We are a family of 13 traveling, and we often have a hard time finding campgrounds that will allow us to rent sites – or, they make us rent 2 sites even though we only have one rv (and don’t set up tents or the like…).
Do you ever have issues like this when your family is traveling?

Dana, I was just at your blog wondering if you had answers to that same question! We are only a family of 9 (or 10) and have that same issue. We usually just end up getting two sites… but what a silly deal! I have no idea why it should matter how many people you have in one site… unless they’re concerned about noise factors?
