I started my involvement on this board almost two years ago with the hopes that I could learn, develop my knowledge and giftings, and I have always had in the back of my mind, a hope to find a way to make this board an active, encouraging place for men to frequent.

The idea of this thread is simple. It mirrors a 'Post Your Set List' thread I have seen on Worship Bass.

We will not delve into deep theological discussions in this thread. PERIOD! If something strikes you, start a new thread in the Theological Rumpus Room. The SOLE purpose of this thread is to post what you read in your devotions that day. Chapter and verse, or section of My Utmost for His Highest, or whatever devotional you are using, and a maximum of three or four sentences on what you learned, or what touched you. If you need more room than that, start another thread.

It is my sincere hope that this will become the longest thread we have ever had here, and it will be an encouragement to all who visit this board.

    In His Service,

    CRBMOA

    Great Idea this is.

    Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

    Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear god and keep his commandments,
for this is the whole duty of man.
For God will bring every deed into judgement,
    including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil.

    Thanks CRMBOA for this thread.

    Great idea CRBMoA! Thx!

From Bill Freeman's The Supplied Life daily devotional entry for today (Tues 7/27/10)

"And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist." Colossians 1:17

The last part of this verse can also be translated "all things are held together in Him." This is very deep because it tells us that the Lord Himself is the cohesive factor that causes us to be held together. Whenever we are experiencing Christ with one another, there is such a sense of being glued together. Our cohesion is Christ.

What is the church? The church is Christ. How is the church Christ? The church is Christ when the members, in their daily living, in their relationships with one another, allow Him to have first place.

James 5:11b You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord — that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.

What was "the end intended by the Lord"? Double for his trouble! Compassion and mercy!!

It's on a train and it's headed your way. [you who are suffering] Keep a steadfast heart, trusting God; not moaning and complaining.

    BELIEVE IT!

The value of the unconditional love we receive from our children.

As a man that was too harsh and critical of my daughter in her youth (and can still get there today if I let myself), I appreciate the Love God shows me through my family. If you are a Dad, you are blessed.

    Matthew 7:1, 2

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

I had never thought of it this way before...

When I look at someone who is holding the sign "Will work for food", what do I think of him?

When I see a "Goth" covered in tattoos and peircings, wearing all black, how do I react?

How do I "judge" those whom I see from day to day?

From Family Life today....(I get a daily from them) This is our dad's/men's forum so this goes great here...

    Passive Fathers, Angry Children

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.
    Ephesians 6:4

Look at the verse above again—it contains one negative command and two positive ones. From our experience, the three commands work together; if you obey the negative command, you are able to fulfill the others as well.

We have established a list of common things a dad does to provoke anger in his children. Many more could be listed, but here are our top five:

Shows a dictatorial style of relating to his children, over-emphasizing authority without an underlying relationship of love, affection and fun times together
Exhibits a critical spirit, consistently tearing down his children with the tone of his voice and the words of his mouth
Is passive and neglects his children outright
Fails to provide clear expectations about boundaries, limits and rules
Fails to develop a relationship with each of his children, either rejecting or withdrawing from the relationship
Fathers need to realize that they can provoke their children to anger or guide them to greatness. It’s interesting that the same Scripture gives fathers two practical ways of developing children into the men and women God designed them to be: discipline and instruction.

When a father cares enough about his children to enter their world and develop a relationship with them and, when needed, discipline them, he expresses love to his children. When we had four teenagers at one time, Barbara leaned on me a lot when it came to discipline. And I want to tell you, it’s during these exhausting moments at the end of the day that the easiest thing to do is nothing.

The same is true for instruction. Dads, you need to turn off the television or the computer and crawl out of your easy chair to formally engage your children’s moral and spiritual education.

Step on up and be the man!

I love the 'be the man!' part. Goes with us being da dad...

    Lord Bless All

M's Daddyman, Excellent and thought-provoking post.

God is dealing with me on several levels, and in multiple areas at once. And I am taking this as one of His methods. It is both a challenge and an encouragement.

    Thank You!

Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.

Matthew 12:43-45 "When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. "Then he says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.' And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. "Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation."

ENCOURAGEMENT TO CLEAN YOUR HOUSE, AND KEEP IT CLEAN:
Brothers, what's living in your heart and household? Discern it by the Spirit and natural observation. You can't see the wind, but you can see it's effects by watching the limbs & leaves move on a tree.

You can't see demons but you can see their effect by watching how your family is moving. Which kingdom is in operation in your household? The signs of the kingdom of darkness ruling (winning the battle) are anger, wrath, malice, disobedience, lying, greed, lust, manipulation, intellectualism, self-righteousness, contentions, and the like. The evidence that the kingdom of God is ruling (winning the battle) are love, peace, joy, unity, love for Christ, desire to serve, generosity, patience, growth, and the like.

NO CONDEMNATION HERE - but only tools for discernment, so that you can do battle if necessary. If you submit to God and resist the demons, then they will flee. Be honest with yourself, so that you can have the opportunity to walk on the battlefield in the name of Jesus, and TAKE THE LAND for your family. Be like David and cry out "Oh Lord, teach my hands to war!".

If you discern demons in your household, then study the life of Jesus and deal with them like He did. EXPEL THEM.
Then receive the Holy Spirit and the grace of God to "fill the house" with the kingdom of God. Re-read Matthew 12:43-45 >>> the problem wasn't the order or cleanliness; it was the EMPTINESS. BE FILLED with the Holy Spirit and the fullness of God! (Eph 3 & 5).

Clean your house, and guard your hearts brothers. And as the Shepherd of your family, guard your wives and children too! And teach them to overcome the enemy!

today's Daily Boost, from Today's Pentecostal Evangel:

    Small Investments, Big Rewards

    September 1, 2010

    By Anita Neal Harrison

³A hundred years from now, who will care how successful we were or how comfortable our lives were? What will matter then is what we invested our lives in.²

I read this quote in a book by Steve Saint, son of missionary martyr Nate Saint, whose story is told in the classic book ³Through Gates of Splendor.² Steve Saint thought of this quote while contemplating a move to the jungle for the gospel¹s sake. Certainly such a decision would require an investment mindset, but I¹m convinced it¹s not just ³big² sacrifices that in the end will matter.

Just as the secret to wealth in finances is often a commitment to make small sacrifices that enable regular investments, we, too, have chances each day to make ³little² investments that will affect eternity. Instead of crashing in front of the TV, we can choose to spend time focused on our kids. Instead of using our money just on ourselves, we can use our finances to build God¹s kingdom. Instead of making excuses for not visiting people we know need companionship, we can find the time to be a friend. None of these investments requires a sacrifice as big as leaving our homes to serve in the jungle, but all of them do require a willingness to give of ourselves to invest in others.

We have an example of this kind of giving in Jesus Christ. Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice in leaving heaven to die for us, but the Gospels are also full of accounts of ³little² sacrifices and investments He made throughout His time on earth. He did not weary in doing good, and we must not either, ³for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people² (Galatians 6:9,10, NIV).
