    Hey Guys,
We just got back from speaking at a winter family camp at Camp Forest Springs in Wisconsin. We all had a blast...rocket-like tubing hill, non-crowded ski slopds, ice skating, dog sledding, other activities...not to mention a stellar speaker.

It started me thinking about all the other camps out there that might be in your neck of the woods. I know I'm a little apprehensive to spend the time and money if I don't know what I'm gertting into. So...how about creating a Familyman Family Camp Directory right here?

If you've been to a family camp and were blessed by your time there let us know where it is and a few of it's "perks." I know there are a few dads who run camps and conference centers, we'd love to hear from you.

Here are few of the ones I've spoken at and a few I'm going to speak at:

Camp Forest Springs, Westboro, WI - Great Winter Family Camp http://www.campforestsprings.org/family/

Sandy Cove, North East, MD - WOW!!! A spectacular summer family camp (homeschoolers week) http://www.sandycove.org/

Camp Barekel, Fairview, MI - Never been to family camp but spoke at a couples retreat. Rustic and nostalgic...making it a romantic get away. http://www.campbarakel.org/camp.asp

Harvey Cedars Bible Conference Center, Harvey Cedars, NJ - Don't know anything about it, except that its on the beach! Will be speaking there in June. http://www.hcbible.org/

Spruce Lake, Canadensis, PA - We'll be there in September. http://sprucelake.org/

The one camp that I am really familiar with in the Missouri area is the YMCA camp: Trout Lodge. While it is not as expressly Christian as some of the other camps mentioned, it is a good family atmosphere with fishing, swimming, biking, climbing towers, horseback riding and many other activities and it is on a picturesque lake in wooded hills.

The camp that we went to when I was growing up was the Wild's in North Carolina. They also have one in New England according to their website, http://wilds.org, but I have never been there before. The N.C. site has all kinds of camps: Youth Worker camps, Ladies' retreats, Couple's Conferences, Summer Teen/Youth Camp, Summer Family Camps, etc. They also have lots of activities to do: hiking, swimming, canoeing, land trolley's, giant swing, fishing, rifle range, and more. Something for the whole family and always good speakers. No TVs, which I always enjoyed because it made us do things together even if we were tired because laying around just wasn't an option! :)

For the last 2 years we have gone to Brethren Retreat for labor day weekend. For family camp. In Shipshewana, IN. This place has a great director and has a lake. It is close to home. And has most of the stuff mentioned above.

We have had a great time. I would recomend it for everybody. We are not of the brethren fellowship. And you could not tell this place was either except for the name. In other words they are non-denominational.
I personally have enjoyed the many speakers, including: Higher Ground, Last year they had 2 different speakers both were christian comedians, one was a ventriloquist.

I've been taking my family to Gull Lake Ministries (www.gulllake.org) family camp since 2005. In addition to Camp weeks, we've been to a Labor Day weekend and Memorial Day weekend of camp. Last month, we took our Youth Ministry there for a retreat that we put together. The best thing about that place is the staff and counselors. There is literally something for everyone at their family camp. They take care of the little kids while the moms and dads listen to the speaker. They have programs for 1st grade thru Senior High. (Fun activities and theme nights too!) We've heard some outstanding speakers including Pastor Lloyd Shadrach, Dr. John Barnett, Ray VanderLaan, etc. They are located in Hickory Corners, MI, near Kalamazoo.

Every year we spend the last week of July at the AFLC Family Camp at the ARC in Osceola, WI.

The camp is geared towards members of the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations (AFLC). They own the camp, hence it is called the Association Retreat Center or ARC. But anyone is welcome. The facility is a former Air Force Radar Station with the old barracks buildings converted into dormitories or updated into motel style rooms. They also have a campground with hookups if you want to provide your own room. Food is great and plentiful. VBS is provided for the kids with morning and evening speakers for the adults and special programs for the teens. The cost is very reasonable with food, lodging, and programming for the entire family included in the price.

PS. - If you want to organize your own camp, they can handle any size group from a dozen to 600 people.
