Intoxicated with Babylon: The Seduction of God's People in the Last Days by Steve Gallagher

I did not want to finish this book. This book made me more uncomfortable than I have been in a long time. Yet, there was something irresistible about what I found in its 200 plus pages, and that was: the truth.

What Steve Gallagher addresses, and I did not want to admit, was that there is a seductive spirit of worldliness that deceptively is waging war for my soul and the souls of those around me. He refers to this spirit as Babylon. And Babylon is drop-dead gorgeous with velvety-smooth
speech. Already having “the World” securely in her grasp, she has set her eyes on “the Church”. She displays her trinkets and people rush headlong into her traps.

How has she deceived the Church? She has convinced us that maintaining an empty shell of a powerless religion is more attractive than the embracing the vibrant life that Jesus Christ offers. What is sad is that we have become so inundated with the message of worldliness – we have bought into her lies so completely – that we don’t even think a book like this speaks to us.

Steve Gallagher has presented these truths in an easy to read format. He has divided the book into three sections: A Biblical mandate, the Condition of the Church and the Church in the Last Days. At the end of each chapter he includes scripture to meditate on and a prayer to guide you in your detection of the Intoxication of Babylon in your own life.

Who is this book for? It is for anyone who wants to get slapped with the reality of God’s Word. To read it is easy; to repent of the worldliness it speaks of will be difficult. But it will be worthwhile. I rank this book as one of the best books for personal spiritual growth that I have
read all year.
