Here are the quick-facts on the addition over our garage:

Monday – Tore off roof
Tuesday – Installed new floor joists
Wednesday – Sam broke through ceiling below. Added floor decking. Begin frameing.

The players:

Ben (15+) – great worker!
Sam (14) – Great worker!
Dave Petersheim – Contractor who goes to our church who is the brains behind the addition.
Christian Tucker (14?) – knows how to drive a skid loader.
Debbie (my wife) – IN charge of clean-up crew and…the CREW!
Me – Old guy who is sore…but has potential and VISION!!!

Looks to me like you need a barn-raising like event similar to the Amish in the movie “Witness”

Wow, I wouldn’t even know where to begin! Those young men will remember that forever!

Hey Todd…I agree with Jim…just imagine if you’d sent an email out to the men who’s lives you touch and put out an “all call” for skilled labor willing to bring a tent, camp on your lawn, and knock it out…you feed them and they give a little payback for you speaking life into their fathering. I think you could have gotten it done in a weekend! :) Keep up the great work…you ‘da carpenter!! :)

Todd, this looks like fun! I am excited for Debbie to get some more room for your crew. Jim loves doing this kind of stuff, not only on our own house, but now we do it on lots of others. Big difference is our work crew consists of one old, sore guy and his daughters! 5 girls, only one boy (7yo) who is just starting to join in. The girls are better now, after almost ten years of working with dad, than a lot of pros. They spent all yesterday stripping a roof. Their homeschool high school transcript is very unique :) Soon comes the shingling…believe it or not, one of their favorite jobs.
    Cool tool belt, Ben!

We have been there also.Three years ago we reframed part of our roof also to gain more room. That first night was tough having no roof over part of the house but God blessed and it all got done.

I like how you spoke about vision. Around here I provide the vision while my spouse gripes and complains about the money I’m spending to get the job done.

Thanks again for a GREAT weekend in Lansing… keep up the ‘dad’ duties on the home front… looks like fun… but sometimes it’s HARD.

    Todd,
We did have a mini-barn raising at our house in Washington State, very rewarding and Wow! were the friendships made with the family that helped!!!!!

Looks good. Looks hard and tough. I hope that your patience will last a long time. Ice and Ibuprofen at night are good things

    Todd,

You ‘da man, You ‘da Dad!

Thank you for coming to Lansing to our tanks. I am grateful for your words of encouragement.

We will be praying for no rain and lots of helping hands to make your vision a reality, It feels great when you can make provisions for your family. It is HARD, but it is GOOD.

    Blessings

Okay, what happened to the ain’t? I might be an elementary teacher by trade and a homeschool Mom by calling, but there are just times when “ain’t” is the perfect word! :-)
